REJECTING BOUNDARIES – On Migration, Home, and the Value of Freedom

  • An inspiring book about the power of humanity.
  • A personal call to actively contribute to a just society, with insights on migration, security, and integration.

Umes Arunagirinathan and Peggy Parnass are separated by fifty years of life, skin color, gender, and many other differences. Yet, what truly connects them is their shared experience of flight and displacement. Peggy was sent by her mother on a children's transport to Sweden in 1939 to escape Nazi persecution. Umes arrived in Germany as a 13-year-old unaccompanied refugee from Sri Lanka. Though both have suffered greatly due to their experiences, they have also developed a deep desire to make the world a better place. Rather than resigning, they have devoted their lives to fighting against injustice, oppression, exploitation, and discrimination.

Based on Peggy Parnass' writings and conversations with Umes Arunagirinathan, this portrait of two extraordinary life paths opens up perspectives from both generations on central themes such as friendship, hate, courage, foreignness, and identity.
