PAULA MODERSOHN-BECKER

Recognition and fame for Paula Modersohn-Becker (1876-1907) came only after her death. A pioneer of modernism, her work was banned as “un-German” during the Nazi reign. After World War II, her heritage was finally acknowledged, not least in the famous artist village of Worpswede, where she worked and died.
