THE JOY OF AGEING

  • A funny, ruthless, and comforting book about growing old and staying young.
  • An unmistakable voice, a creaky and humorous tone that takes away the fear of life after youth.

Christiane Rösinger is a musician, a Kreuzberg native, and a grandmother. As far as she is concerned, things could go on like this forever, were it not for aging and money worries. Aging cannot be stopped, but in order to earn a little, Christiane decides to write a guide to old age.

Without illusions, but full of power. An energetic call to stop tolerating how society treats women who are no longer young.

Yet, finding a relaxed attitude towards aging isn't easy, even for her. This is evident in her conversations with her friends, their differing experiences and opinions: there's the dog lady, the self-optimiser, the one who moved to the countryside. There are no positive role models far and wide. Where are the examples? And most importantly: What use is any of it when you suddenly find yourself in a hospital's stroke unit?

Not a guide, but a bitingly funny book full of memories, thoughts, and stories that ultimately contains one serious piece of advice: complain less, live more. Because to be old is to be free.
