  • A warm and thoughtful look at rural life and what it really means to be a farmer.

Farm stories with a twist – what happens next when the last cow leaves the farm?

Martin Frank has spent his entire life on his family’s farm, surrounded by chickens, goats, cats, and cows. But this year, that’s all coming to an end – his father is giving up the farm, and the last cow is leaving the barn. But what does it mean to live without animals, without farming?

Martin Frank, who has always juggled life between the cow shed and the comedy stage, begins to reflect and, in his distinctive tone, writes down what is on his mind: Why are farmers so often met with prejudice? What is the future of farming? Why is rural life still so romanticized? And what happens to Martin when the last cow turns out the light? He moves to the organic farm of his partner, a rural veterinarian – thus begins a new chapter. A book that, with warmth and humor, brings city and country a little closer together.
